How Come The White Man Is Always Trying To Hold Me Down!
The truth is he is not but you are doing it to yourself.
I have heard this statement many times while growing up in the Bronx. Many of the people who tended to say this statement actually thought it was true. To be honest it may have been true way back in the day but these days from what I have experienced I did not have anyone hold me down.
The issue I believe is the reason why people tend to get held back is not because of a person or group I believe it that the reason why people are left behind is because of their behavior and not understanding how society works. Their perceptions of the world is different than most. This does not only happen to Minorities but I have seen many in the Majority how are just as lost as some people in the Minority group.
We need to stop using that statement as an excuse for not wanting to move up in the world. From my experience I have seen many of great minds laid to waste because they were not able to change their behavior or mindset and ended up either dead, strung out or in Prison for the rest of their lives.
This statement alone has kept many people in the confines of the “Hood” never ever really going away from it. I on the other hand realized that there is a bigger and better world out there apart from the confines of the “Hood”. I…
